Fiona Ma is California's 34th State Treasurer, elected in 2018 with the highest number of votes for a treasurer in state history. She is the first woman of color and the first CPA to hold the position. As the state's primary banker, she oversees a $124 billion investment portfolio and manages over $3 trillion in payments annually. Ma has been instrumental in financing infrastructure projects, chairing committees like the California Alternative Energy and Advanced Transportation Financing Authority (CAEATFA) to support green initiatives. Before becoming Treasurer, she served on the California Board of Equalization, where she led significant reforms and advocated for fair taxation, including regulating the cannabis industry. Ma's public service career began on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, and she has a background in accounting with degrees from the Rochester Institute of Technology, Golden Gate University, and Pepperdine University. She is also actively involved in various organizations, including the Vatican’s Council for Inclusive Capitalism and the California Society of CPAs.
